Arkansas’ men’s basketball team will face Michigan as part of the 2024 Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden in New York, according to a Thursday report by college basketball insider Jon Rothstein.
The Razorbacks and Wolverines are expected to pair with a matchup between Tennessee and Miami in the two-game showcase event.
While there is no timetable for an announcement on a tip-off time, the Jimmy V Classic will be held Dec. 11, per the event’s website.
Michigan stumbled to an 8-24 (3-17 Big Ten) finish last season and ultimately let go of head coach Juwan Howard. But the Wolverines have retooled the roster since hiring former Florida Atlantic head coach Dusty May.
May will be on the bench opposite his former star guard Johnell Davis, who transferred to Arkansas this spring, when Michigan and the Hogs meet at the basketball Mecca in the Big Apple. May’s roster also includes forward Vlad Goldin, who followed him from FAU this offseason.
Arkansas is 3-4 all-time against Michigan, with the last meeting resulting in an 80-67 loss for the Razorbacks in Ann Arbor, Mich., in the 2012-13 season. The teams have met once before at Madison Square Garden, with Michigan coming away with a 77-62 victory in the 1997 NIT semifinals.
