Arkansas football held its second practice of the spring Friday morning inside Walker Pavilion. Day 2 began around 9 a.m.
Here are a bunch of notes from the two-hour workout:
• Eric Mateos continues to bring the energy with the offensive line. Loud, assertive and very technical with his teaching. No cheated reps allowed.
• Sam Pittman is serving as a “graduate assistant” alongside Mateos coaching the offensive line. He spent a full 30 minutes with the OL during individual drills.
• Wide receiver Jaedon Wilson left late in practice with a pulled hamstring. The severity of the injury is uncertain at this time.
• The offense continues to dominate “Inside Run,” which is not entirely surprising since the team is not going full pads and tackle just yet. However, the O-line has consistently been paving the way with huge holes for the backs to work with.
• Rashod Dubinion looks like an improved running back. Confident, shifty and consistently making plays as a pass-catcher out of the backfield. Braylen Russell is a large human, particularly for a freshman running back, but he is also deceptively fast and elusive at his size. Him and Dominique Johnson both broke off some big runs today.
• Notable plays from an extended team period: Dazmin James had a big run on a reverse on the first play of the segment; Taylen Green connected with Tyrone Broden for a nice gain; Isaiah Augustave picked up good yardage on a run to the left side; Ja’Quinden Jackson picked up solid yardage on a run to the left; Johnson had a huge gain on a cutback; Russell had a huge gain on a run up the middle and later to the right side; Jacolby Criswell completed a play-action ball to CJ Brown for a nice gain; Green connected with Luke Hasz on a play-action deep ball.
• Highlights from 7-on-7 work: Andrew Armstrong made an acrobatic catch on a deep ball from KJ Jackson; Isaac TeSlaa and Broden each caught a pair of passes from Green.
Green was 8/11, Criswell was 6/9, Malachi Singleton was 5/8, and KJ Jackson was 3/6 with an interception by Tevis Metcalf.
Brad Spence, Lorando “Snaxx” Johnson, Carson Dean and RJ Johnson all came away with nice PBUs.
