The No. 2 Arkansas Razorbacks (35-6, 14-4 SEC) run-ruled the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions (13-26, 4-13 SWAC) by a score of 11-1 on Tuesday inside Dickey Stephens Park in North Little Rock.
The Razorbacks took advantage of 6 walks issued by UAPB pitching to score 11 runs on 9 hits, while 4 Arkansas pitchers held the Golden Lions to just 1 run and no walks.
Here’s a closer look at Tuesday’s action as the Razorbacks improved to 35-6 on the year before facing Florida this weekend.
Scoring Recap
Bottom 1 – Arkansas 1, UAPB 0: Wehiwa Aloy started the scoring with an RBI single to score Peyton Stovall from second base.
Top 2 – Arkansas 1, UAPB 1: The Golden Lions tied the game up on an RBI double from JaKobi Jackson.
Bottom 5 – Arkansas 3, UAPB 1: Aloy drove in two more with a double into the gap, bringing home Ty Wilmsmeyer and Ben McLaughlin.
Bottom 6 – Arkansas 10, UAPB 1: The first two Hogs reached on walks before Ross Lovich got via an error. Ryder Helfrick would draw the third walk of the inning to score Nolan Souza before a one-out sac fly from Stovall. The Hogs did a lot of damage with two outs in the sixth, beginning with another two-RBI single from Aloy, followed by an RBI single from Kendall Diggs to score McLaughlin. The last bit of damage was done by Souza, who ripped a ball 110 mph into the gap to score runs Nos. 9 and 10.
Bottom 7 – Arkansas 11, UAPB 1: The Razorbacks run ruled the Golden Lions in walk-off fashion thanks to a Stovall sac fly, which scored Lovich.
Winners and Losers
Win: (ARK) Cooper Dossett (3-0)
Loss: (UAPB) Calvin McClendon (1-6)
Gorilla of The Game
Wehiwa Aloy: 4-4, 5 RBI, 2B
Aloy was the Hogs’ best hitter Tuesday, recording a season-high four hits and driving in nearly half of the Razorbacks’ runs.
The Hawaii native got the scoring started with an RBI single in the first, and never pumped the breaks. He continued to plague Golden Lion pitching by depositing hit after hit.
Aloy has now extended his on-base streak to a whopping 31 games while collecting a hit in each of his last six games to boost his batting average to nearly .300.
Most Valuable Arm
Cooper Dossett: 3.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4Ks
Cooper Dossett got the call out of the pen when Ben Bybee exited after just two innings in his start, and he had one of his best outings of the season.
The sophomore right-hander out of Springdale looked especially crisp in his Tuesday outing, mowing down four UAPB batters with excellent command. Dossett threw just eight of his 29 pitches for balls.
This outing dropped Dossett’s ERA from 3.60 to just 2.77 in his three innings of work. Expect to see a little bit more where that came from later in the weekend series if the opportunity presents itself.
