Full Recap: Arkansas 15, James Madison 5

The Arkansas Razorbacks improved to 2-0 on the year with a 15-5 victory over the James Madison Dukes inside Baum-Walker Stadium.

Brady Tygart delivered five strong innings on the mound to pick up his first win of the season, and Koty Frank earned the save by retiring all seven hitters he faced after facing the tying run when he entered the game in the sixth inning.

Offensively, Ty Wilmsmeyer led the way with three hits and a career-high five RBI while hitting his first home run of the season. All nine starters in the Arkansas lineup recorded at least one hit while Peyton Holt, Ben McLaughlin and Hudson White provided two each.

1st Inning

Brady Tygart hits Dunaway in the head with the third pitch he throws, and the Dukes have a leadoff baserunner. We are officially underway.
The first out comes on a bunt to third by Mancini. Sprague-Lott makes a tough play look really easy.
Dunaway tries to steal third for whatever reason, and the freshman Ryder Helfrick (making his first career start behind the plate for Arkansas) throws him out for the second out of the inning.
Trimble grounds one sharply up the middle, but Peyton Holt is there and gets it on a slide and fires to first for the play in plenty of time. Tygart is through his first inning after 11 pitches. JMU 1st: 0 Runs, 0 Hits, 0 Walks, 0 Errors
After White pops up to short to start the frame, Kendall Diggs works a five-pitch walk to become the first Hog on base.
Both Aloy and McLaughlin got ahead 3-1 in their plate appearances, but Aloy winds up striking out looking, and McLaughlin skies one to shortstop to complete the inning. Ark 1st: 0 Runs, 0 Hits, 1 Walk, 0 Errors

2nd Inning

The first hit of the game belongs to Ryan Dooley, who singles sharply past the glove of Aloy up the middle to give the Dukes another leadoff baserunner.
Another sacrifice bunt is laid down by the Dukes as Calabrese pokes one to Sprague-Lott, who fires to first as Dooley moves to second base.
O’Donnell grounds one softly to Sprague-Lott for the second out, and Steinberg grounds out to Aloy at shortstop to end the frame. JMU 2nd: 0 Runs, 1 Hit, 0 Walks, 0 Errors
After Helfrick fouled out to right field to start the home half, Peyton Holt rips a single through the right side for Arkansas’ first hit.
Edmunson flies out to right field, and Sprague-Lott strikes out looking at a breaking ball at the top of the zone as the Hogs strand another runner. Ark 2nd: 0 Runs, 1 Hit, 0 Walks, 0 Errors

3rd Inning

Schiavone skies the first pitch of the inning to shallow right for an out, and then Tygart collects his first strikeout on an 0-2 changeup swung on and missed by Peifer.
On a 3-2 count with two down, Dunaway is hit in the head by a Tygart pitch for the second time today to extend the frame.
Tygart bounces back to get Mancini to go down looking at a 1-2 slider for the third out. JMU 3rd: 0 Runs, 0 Hits, 0 Walks, 0 Errors
Arkansas 1, James Madison 0: Missouri transfer Ty Wilmsmeyer goes the other way and lifts an opposite-field home run just over the wall in right-center. The solo home run, his first as a Razorback, traveled 369 feet and was hit 100 MPH off the bat.
A Hudson White check-swing leads to the first out, and then Diggs and Aloy struck out looking to end the inning. Ark 3rd: 1 Run, 1 Hit, 0 Walks, 0 Errors

4th Inning

Trimble flies out to center field to start the inning, then Dooley follows him with his second hit of the day on a liner to left field.
With one on and one out, Tygart hits Calabrese with a pitch to move Dooley into scoring position.
After O’Donnell popped up to third for the second out, a five-pitch walk to Steinberg loads the bases. Arkansas pitching coach Matt Hobbs is out for a visit with Tygart.
Arkansas 1, James Madison 1: Tygart can’t find the zone on a 3-1 pitch and walks Schiavone to bring in a run and tie the game. Bases remain juiced.
Tygart settles in and gets Peifer to go down swinging at a 2-2 changeup to limit the damage and strand three. JMU 4th: 1 Run, 1 Hit, 2 Walks, 0 Errors
Arkansas 2, James Madison 1: Ryder Helfrick has his first hit and home run as a Hog with a solo shot to left field, hit 105 MPH off the bat and 367 feet to straightaway left field.
Dunaway can’t come up with the routine grounder hit to him by Holt. The Razorbacks now have one on and one out as James Madison goes to the bullpen and brings in RHP Sean Culkin to pitch.
Will Edmunson rips a single 102 MPH up the middle for a single, and Holt goes first to third. Hogs at the corners now with one away.
Arkansas 3, James Madison 1: Jared Sprague-Lott rips a single to left-center field for his third hit and third RBI of the series. Edmunson moves up to third base with one away still.
Arkansas 4, James Madison 1: Ty Wilmsmeyer has his second hit and RBI of the day as he drops a single into shallow left field. Hogs at first and second now.
A pickoff attempt at second gets through the glove of Mancini and into center field. Runners move up to second and third.
Hudson White is walked to load the bases with still one away. The Dukes will now bring in LHP Jaden Kinsler to face Diggs with the bags juiced.

Brady Tygart retires the side in order for the first time, getting pinch hitter Jack Cannizzaro to strike out looking before inducing a pair of flyouts, the second of which featured a highlight-reel catch at the wall to rob Trimble of a home run. JMU 5th: 0 Runs, 0 Hits, 0 Walks, 0 Errors
Ben McLaughlin leads off the bottom half with a 3-2 blooper that drops for a hit in left field for the Hogs.
Helfrick is walked on four pitches to put runners on first and second with one away.
Holt pops one up on the infield for the first out, and Edmunson lines one to left field for a well-hit second out.
Sprague-Lott works a six-pitch walk to load the bases and extend the inning.
Arkansas 7, James Madison 1: The Ty Wilmsmeyer Showcase continues as he lines a single up the middle to drive in two more. That’s now three hits and four RBI on the day for the center fielder. Runners at the corners now with two away as the lineup turns over.

Sophomore LHP Parker Coil is in to pitch for Brady Tygart, who finishes his day with a final line of 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R (1 ER), 2 BB, 4 K, 78 pitches (43 strikes).
Ryan Dooley hits the first pitch he sees from Coil back up the middle for his third base hit of the day.
Coleman Calabrese hits a chopper down the third-base line, but it bounces over the head of Sprague-Lott and into left field for a hit.
Coil gets his first strikeout of the year on a 91 MPH heater up in the zone.
Arkansas 7, James Madison 2: Jacob Steinerg executes a hit-and-run flawlessly for the Dukes and pokes one to right field for the third hit of the inning. Runners at the corners now with one away.
Coil issues a walk to Schiavone to load the bases with one away.
Arkansas 7, James Madison 3: Peifer lays down a bunt, which Coil fields and tosses to first for the second out as a run comes home.
Arkansas 7, James Madison 5: Jack Cannizzaro lines a single to left-center field to drive home two more runs and bring the tying run to the plate.
Senior RHP Koty Frank will now come out of the bullpen to pitch for Coil with a runner on first and two outs.

Wehiwa Aloy works a five-pitch walk to lead off the bottom half, and Ben McLaughlin follows with a single up the middle for his second hit of the afternoon. Aloy slides in safely at third.

Arkansas 12, James Madison 5: Hudson White rips one down the third-base line, and it gets all the way to the fence for a two-run double as Wilmsmeyer hustles around to score.
Arkansas 13, James Madison 5: Kendall Diggs rips an RBI single through the right side, and the right fielder can’t come up with it cleanly. Diggs moves to second on the error, and the inning continues.

Koty Frank retires the side in order, inducing a pair of fly ball outs before a groundout to third ends the frame. JMU 7th: 0 Runs, 0 Hits, 0 Walks, 0 Errors
McLaughlin works a six-pitch walk to start the Arkansas half of the inning.
The leadoff baserunner is wiped out by Helfrick grounding into a 6-4-3 double play for the first two outs, and Holt follows with a 6-3 groundout to end the inning.

8th Inning
