Full Recap: Arkansas 17, SEMO 9

Follow along here for live updates as the No. 5 Arkansas Razorbacks open up the Fayetteville Regional in the NCAA Tournament against the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks inside Baum-Walker Stadium.

The 1-seed Razorbacks are hosting their sixth Regional in the last seven full seasons, doing so as a national seed for the fifth time in six years. This will be the 17th meeting between the Diamond Hogs and Redhawks, with Arkansas leading the series 11-5.

Junior left-hander Mason Molina (4-2, 4.04 ERA) will take the mound first for Arkansas, and the Redhawks will counter with left-hander Haden Dow (4-1, 4.89 ERA). Below are the starting lineups for each team.

1st Inning

  • The first pitch from Mason Molina is taken high for a ball, and we are underway.
  • Molina issues a four-pitch walk to Kettering to start the game, missing high with four straight fastballs.
  • Top 1: Molina bounces back and gets a couple three-pitch strikeouts and a flyout to strand a runner and end the frame.
  • After a hard groundout from Stovall to start the frame, Hudson White deposits an opposite-field home run into the bullpen in right field. Arkansas 1, SEMO 0
  • Bot 1: Sprague-Lott fouls out to shallow left field, and McLaughlin grounds out to first base to end the inning.

2nd Inning

  • Top 2: Molina gets a first-pitch popup to start the inning before getting an F7 and his third strikeout to complete a 1-2-3 frame.
  • Ryder Helfrick goes down swinging at a 3-2 breaking ball for the first out, then Wehiwa Aloy rips a pitch 110 MPH through the left side and legs it out for a one-out double.
  • Kendall Diggs is hit on the hand with a 1-2 pitch, putting runners at first and second base with one away.
  • Peyton Holt goes the other way and sends an opposite-field single through the right side. Aloy scores from second, and Diggs gets to third base to put runners on the corners with still one out. Arkansas 2, SEMO 0
  • Ty Wilmsmeyer grounds one to the right side, and the second baseman Kettering’s throw pulled Palmer off the bag at second base for an E4. Runners at first and second now with still one out. Arkansas 3, SEMO 0
  • After a flyout to center field from Stovall, Hudson White works a walk to load the bases with two away.
  • SEMO turns to RHP Collin Wilma, who is greeted with a two-run single to left field by Jared Sprague-Lott. The 66-MPH breaking pitch was hit 73 MPH into the shallow outfield to make it a five-run game. Arkansas 5, SEMO 0
  • Ben McLaughlin adds to the damage by ripping a 2-2 breaking ball 103 MPH and 384 feet to right field for a three-run home run off the performance facility. Arkansas 8, SEMO 0
  • Bot 2: Helfrick goes down looking at a 1-2 breaking ball for strike three to end the inning.

3rd Inning

  • Molina issues a leadoff walk to Cannon to start the frame after nine pitches.
  • After a strikeout of Ackerman for the first out, Molina issues his third walk of the game to Kettering to put two SEMO runners on with one out.
  • Ben Palmer gets the Redhawks on the board by jumping on a 3-2 fastball and sending it 412 feet to left-center for a three-run blast to cut into the lead. Arkansas 8, SEMO 3
  • Molina follows with a walk to Stauss before allowing an opposite-field double on a 1-2 pitch to Michael Mugan to put two Redhawks in scoring position.
  • Josh Cameron lifts a fly ball to fairly deep right-center for the second out. That’ll bring home Stauss from third as Mugan slides in safely to third base on a close play. Arkansas 8, SEMO 4
  • With two outs and a runner on third, Arkansas turns to Will McEntire on the mound.
  • Top 3: McEntire gets a quick popup on the second pitch he throws, and Stovall makes the play to end the frame.
  • Bot 3: Aloy grounds out, Diggs lines out sharply to second base, and Holt flies out to deep right-center to complete a quick inning for the Razorbacks.

4th Inning

  • Top 4: McEntire counters with a 1-2-3 inning of his own, getting two quick popups and a strikeout to retire the side with just nine pitches.
  • Ty Wilmsmeyer reaches to start the home half after a ground ball to Kettering at second gets under his glove for another E4.
  • Bot 4: Stovall strikes out, White pops out, and Sprague-Lott grounded out up the middle to leave one Razorback stranded.

5th Inning

  • Kettering works an eight-pitch walk to start the inning, then Palmer rips a single through the left side to put two runners on with nobody out.
  • Ty Stauss follows with a dribbler to the left side, and it winds up being placed perfectly for an infield single between three defenders. Bases loaded now with nobody out.
  • Mugan chops one to Aloy at shortstop, and he flips to second for the first out. Mugan beats the return throw to first to keep runners on the corners with one out as a run comes home to score. Arkansas 8, SEMO 5
  • Josh Cameron turns on one and rips it over the wall in right field for a three-run home run to tie this ball game. Arkansas 8, SEMO 8
  • Arkansas will now turn to RHP Christian Foutch with the bases empty and one out.
  • After striking out the first hitter he faced, Foutch issues a walk to Resetich with two outs. Resetich follows with a perfect delayed steal before advancing to third base on a wild pitch.
  • Top 5: After another walk to Cannon put runners on the corners, Foutch gets Ackerman to ground out to second base to end the frame.
  • After two groundouts to start the frame, Wehiwa Aloy turns on a heater up in the zone and sends it over the Hog Pen in left field, putting Arkansas back on top with his 14th home run of the year. Arkansas 9, SEMO 8
  • SEMO turns to a lefty Logan Katen to face Kendall Diggs, who greets him with an opposite-field home run into the bullpen in left field to add to the lead. Arkansas 10, SEMO 8
  • Peyton Holt keeps the inning alive by legging out an infield single at short despite a valiant effort from Palmer in the six-hole. Ty Wilmsmeyer follows with a bloop single to center field, which pushes Holt to third base.
  • Stovall works a walk to load the bases, prompting another SEMO pitching change with two outs.
  • Bot 5: Payton Lawrence comes in and gets a big strikeout of White to end the inning and leave three Hogs on base.

6th Inning

  • Arkansas turns to its freshman closer Gabe Gaeckle to start the inning.
  • Gaeckle issues a leadoff walk to Kettering but bounces back to get Palmer to strikeout swinging.
  • Ty Stauss rips a single up the middle for his second hit of the day, then Gaeckle follows with another swinging strikeout of Mugan.
  • Top 6: Cameron flies out to Diggs in right field to end the frame and strand two runners.
  • Jared Sprague-Lott gets down 0-2 before taking four straight balls for a leadoff walk.
  • Ben McLaughlin rips one down the right-field line and just past the glove of Cannon at first for a double. Sprague-Lott advances to third before getting a stop sign from Nate Thompson with nobody out.
  • Ross Lovich comes in to pinch hit for Helfrick and goes down swinging at a breaking ball up in the zone. Aloy follows with a popup to first. Two outs now, with runners still at second and third.
  • Diggs works an 11-pitch walk to load the bases with two away.
  • Bot 6: Lawrence comes back with a big punchout against Holt to strand three more Hogs and keep it a two-run game.

7th Inning

  • Coloma grounds out to short to start the inning, then Chance Resetich jumps on the first pitch he sees and rips it for a double down the third-base line.
  • Bryce Cannon follows with a well-placed base hit in the gap in right-center for an RBI double to cut the lead in half. Arkansas 10, SEMO 9
  • Gaeckle bounces back and strikes out the pinch hitter Riley before Kettering worked his fourth walk of the day.
  • Top 7: Ben Palmer fouls out to McLaughlin to end the frame and leave two stranded.
  • Ty Wilmsmeyer grounds a 2-2 pitch to the left side and reaches base after Resetic’s throw from third pulled Cannon off the bag.
  • Peyton Stovall grounds a base hit through the right side, and Wilmsmeyer advances to third on the single to put runners on the corners with nobody out.
  • Hudson White lifts a fly ball to right field for the first out, and it’s plenty deep enough to allow Wilmsmeyer to tag and score. Arkansas 11, SEMO 9
  • Sprague-Lott works another walk to make it two Hogs aboard with one out.
  • Ben McLaughlin gets a 2-2 pitch up in the zone and doesn’t miss it, sending his second three-run home run of the game to right-center field. Arkansas 14, SEMO 9
  • Bot 8: Ross Lovich reaches with an infield single before being caught stealing, and an Aloy groundout ends the inning.

8th Inning

  • Gaeckle returns and issues a leadoff walk before coming back with another strikeout for out No. 1.
  • Top 8: Gaeckle strikes out Cameron on a 3-2 fastball before disposing of Coloma for his sixth strikeout to end the frame.
  • Kendall Diggs reaches base for the third time today with a leadoff base hit to right field.
  • Will Edmunson lays down a sacrifice bunt to advance Diggs before Ty Wilmsmeyer reaches with a base hit through the right side, which he legs out somehow for a double as Diggs advances to third base.
  • Stovall strikes out for the second out, but then Hudson White launches his second home run of the day to left field to break this one completely open. Arkansas 17, SEMO 9
  • Bot 8: Sprague-Lott goes down swinging to end the inning.

9th Inning

  • Jake Faherty will now get the ball on the mound for Arkansas looking to close this one out.
  • Faherty works around a one-out single with a strikeout, flyout and a groundout to wrap things up at Baum-Walker Stadium.
