Arkansas guard Devo Davis is back with the Razorbacks after a three-game absence, head coach Eric Musselman said Monday during his radio show.
“Devo and I met [Sunday],” Musselman said. “We had a great conversation in my office. Followed it up with him and I lifting weights together, and then he went into the gym on his own and got shots up. He is back with the team. He practiced today.
“We’re excited to have him back. I think he’s excited to be back with us. He had a good practice today. He tweaked his ankle a little bit his first day back, as did a couple of other guys.”
The 6-4 senior “stepped away from the program,” according to a release, prior to Arkansas’ home loss to Kentucky on Jan. 27. He was also away from the team last week at Missouri and LSU.
It was the second leave of absence for Davis in the last two seasons. The Jacksonville native was not present Nov. 28, 2022, for the Razorbacks’ win over Troy, which came on the heels of him playing limited minutes in an overtime win over San Diego State at the Maui Invitational.
Davis in 2023-24 is averaging 6.3 points on 35.5% shooting — 23.9% from three-point range — and 4.0 rebounds in 19 games, including 18 starts.
He has put up 4.0 points and 2.7 rebounds in 6 league games.
Arkansas (11-11, 2-7 SEC) set to host Georgia (14-8, 4-5 SEC) on Saturday at 5 p.m. on SEC Network.
I agree with you both that he needs to move on and not return for the fifth season after this. Hopefully he’ll find his way and learn to handle things without stepping away from work in life.
