Despite ‘great, great season,’ Mark left off coaches’ All-SEC teams

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas coach Eric Musselman was a bit tied up early Monday afternoon when the SEC released postseason awards voted on by the league’s coaches.

The All-SEC first and second teams consisted on 17 players, including nine on the second team. The Razorbacks did not have a player selected.

According to Arkansas’ 2023-24 media guide, it is the first time the Razorbacks have not had a player named to the coaches’ All-SEC teams since 2003.

Musselman on Monday was asked for his thoughts on shooting guard Tramon Mark, the team’s leading scorer, not receiving even a second-team nod.

“I came straight from lunch. I had some salmon at Taziki’s [Cafe] and walked in here, and [Associate AD for Communications] Kyle [Parkinson] put me in front of you guys,” Musselman said. “So I don’t know what time that came out. I don’t have a comment unless I have some time to digest it.

“I don’t know who the other names are, so I guess it would be inappropriate for me to comment. [We] certainly feel like T-Mark has had a great, great season and has been productive throughout the SEC season as well.”

Mark, a transfer from Houston, closed the regular season seventh in the SEC in scoring at 16.7 points per game.

In league-only games, he put up 16.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, and led Arkansas in assists (34) and steals (29). Mark was also second in blocks (19), trailing only Makhi Mitchell (27).

The All-SEC first team included Alabama’s Mark Sears, Tennessee’s Dalton Knecht and Zakai Zeigler, Auburn’s Johni Broome, Florida’s Zyon Pullin, Kentucky’s Antonio Reeves, Mississippi State’s Tolu Smith, and Texas A&M’s Wade Taylor.

The second-team picks were Rob Dillingham and Reed Sheppard of Kentucky, Ta’Lon Cooper and Meechie Johnson of South Carolina, Jaylin Williams of Auburn, Walter Clayton of Florida, Matthew Murrell of Ole Miss, Josh Hubbard of Mississippi State, and Jonas Aidoo of Tennessee.

Five teams — Arkansas, LSU, Vanderbilt, Georgia, Missouri — did not have a player represented.

“Unless I had time to study that list, I would be ill-informed other than to say that I think T-Mark has had a great season.”
