Calipari, Razorbacks will reportedly host Oakland in late December

Arkansas basketball has added a late-December game to its 2024-25 non-conference schedule, according to a report.

College basketball scheduling reporter Rocco Miller posted to X on Wednesday that the Razorbacks in Year 1 under head coach John Calipari will host Oakland on Dec. 30 in Fayetteville. A game time has not yet been determined.

Arkansas is 2-0 all-time against Oakland, which is a member of the Horizon League and located in Michigan. The programs’ last meeting was a 91-68 win for the Razorbacks in November 2011.

Arkansas also beat the Golden Grizzlies 91-57 in December 2006.

Next season’s matchup is intriguing because Oakland and head coach Greg Kampe upset No. 3 seed Kentucky in the first round of the NCAA Tournament this spring. It was Calipari’s final game in charge of the Wildcats.

Kampe has served as the head coach at Oakland since 1984 and led the program to four NCAA Tournaments.

The Golden Grizzlies last season finished 24-12 overall and 15-5 in league games. They won the Horizon League regular-season championship and conference tournament title, and were handed a No. 14 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Oakland is the second known non-conference game on Arkansas’ schedule next season. The Razorbacks are also reportedly set to face Michigan at the Jimmy V Classic in Madison Square Garden in December.

According to the event’s official website, the game is set for Dec. 11.
