Battle transferring to Gonzaga after 1 season with Hogs

Former Arkansas guard Khalif Battle’s transfer destination was announced Sunday evening.

The New Jersey native, after one season with the Razorbacks, is transferring to Gonzaga, according to On3.com’s Joe Tipton. He committed to the Bulldogs over finalists Villanova and Kansas State.

Gonzaga will be the fourth school in six seasons for Battle. He began his college career at Butler before transferring to Temple then to Arkansas.

Battle is the third player on the Razorbacks’ 2023-24 roster to commit to a different program this spring. Tramon Mark and Baye Fall pledged to Texas and Kansas State, respectively.

In 32 games at Arkansas, Battle averaged 14.8 points on 40.6% shooting. He started 11 of 17 conference games played in the regular season, put up 14.2 points on 39.5% from the field, and shot 31.4% beyond the arc.

Battle knocked down a team-high 48 threes and made 186 of 213 (88.9%) free throws.

Considered the No. 153 player in the transfer portal by On3, Battle closed the regular season on a historic scoring tear. He averaged 28.0 points on 47.2% shooting in the team’s final 7 games.

Battle poured in a career-best 42 points in Arkansas’ home win over Missouri in February. He then followed with 36- and 34-point performances against Vanderbilt and at Kentucky.

Gonzaga last season finished with a 27-8 record and advanced to the Sweet 16 behind wins over McNeese and Kansas. The Bulldogs have made the NCAA Tournament every season under head coach Mark Few, who has led the program since 1999-2000.

Gonzaga has won at least 27 games in 12 straight seasons, and the Bulldogs have eight 30-win seasons under Few.
