Arkansas guard Layden Blocker enters transfer portal

Arkansas freshman guard Layden Blocker has entered the transfer portal after one season in Fayetteville.

“Prayer, hard work and sacrifice opened up the doors for me to have an opportunity to play college basketball.

“First and foremost, I want to thank God for blessing me with the talent to play this game. I want to thank the University of Arkansas basketball coaching staff for recruiting me.

“It was an honor to come home, represent the state of Arkansas, and the Razorback program.

“I’m grateful for my teammates, that have become brothers, who’ve all supported me on this journey. Thank you to all of the fans and the community for you love and support throughout the season.

“I also want to give a special thanks to the local business for your support. After much discussion and consideration, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal.”

He becomes the fifth Razorback to enter the portal since it opened, joining Joseph Pinion, Denijay Harris, Keyon Menifield and Devo Davis.

Blocker appeared in 27 games in his debut season for the Razorbacks, averaging 3.7 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game on 40.3% shooting from the field.

The Little Rock native made five starts for the Hoop Hogs and played 13.4 minutes per game.

Blocker’s first start was a 9-point, 3-rebound effort against Memphis at the Battle 4 Atlantis that he followed up with 11 points and 3 steals against North Carolina.

Blocker scored a career-high 14 points to go along with 4 rebounds and 2 steals on the road at Florida on Jan. 13.

He pitched in nine points on four separate occasions at home against Duke and Furman, and on the road vs. Missouri and LSU.

A 4-star prospect out of the 2023 recruiting class, Blocker was one of two true freshmen, alongside Baye Fall, on the Razorback roster last season.

  1. I have to say that I don’t particularly love this news. Watch him plague us over the next several years.

  2. Don’t particularly love this news. Hopefully Muss isn’t killing the Arkansas connection. It really stinks if Muss is leaving.
