Arkansas football spring practice report: March 26

The Arkansas football team returned to the practice field Tuesday morning for its first workout post-spring break. The Razorbacks’ practice was held inside Walker Pavilion.

Here are a handful of notes and observations from the two-hour viewing window:

• Personnel notes: Running back Dominique Johnson wore a brace on his right knee. Tight end Ty Washington wore a green no-contact jersey. Wide receiver Bryce Stephens observed parts of practice from the sideline and also worked with strength coach Ben Sowders.

• Highlights from the receiver/defensive back 1-on-1s: Lorando “Snaxx” Johnson broke up a pass; Davion Dozier made a catch for a nice gain; Taylen Green threw a touchdown pass to Andrew Armstrong; CJ Brown had a drop and a touchdown catch; defensive backs with PBUs included Marquise Robinson, Jaheim Singletary, TJ Metcalf and Jaylon Braxton; Tyrone Broden made a great catch against Kee’yon Stewart; and Isaiah Sategna had a reception.

In the team period of practice, Green again connected with Armstrong on a deep ball, and Malachi Singleton threw a touchdown pass to Davion Dozier.

  • Brad Spence came up with what would have been a pick-six at the goal line in red zone work.
  • Arkansas director of athletics Hunter Yurachek was on the sideline observing during the latter portions of practice.
  • Offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino gave transfer tight end Andreas Paaske an ear full during a late-clock period for taking a hit out of bounds and stopping the clock after a reception rather than sliding to keep the clock moving.

• Sam Pittman made it a point to compliment Broden after making a catch over the middle during 7-on-7 work. He talked up Broden then tapped him on the helmet. The 6-7 receiver is having a nice spring so far.

  • The 7-on-7 stats for the quarterbacks were as follows:

– Green: 10/14 w/ touchdowns to Armstrong and Jaedon Wilson in red zone

– Singleton: 7/8 w/ touchdowns to Shamar Easter and Var’Keyes Gumms in red zone

– Jacolby Criswell: 5/9

– KJ Jackson: 4/6 w/ touchdown over the middle to Isaac TeSlaa

– Austin Ledbetter: 0/3 w/ interception by Snaxx Johnson

• During a special teams period, former Arkansas receiver De’Vion Warren was working with the team’s kickoff returners. Warren had 1,610 kick return yards with the Razorbacks.

• Carson Dean ran with the first-team defense at linebacker while Brad Spence worked with the second group near the line of scrimmage as a stand-up rusher off the edge. Below is a look at how each defense lined up during the Fastball Start period:
