Max Fletcher commits to Cincy after short time in portal

Arkansas’ football team lost a specialist to the NCAA transfer portal on Thursday.

Razorbacks punter Max Fletcher entered the transfer portal less than one week after the team’s spring game then committed to Cincinnati on Friday. A native of Australia, Fletcher spent the last two seasons at Arkansas.

Fletcher’s brother, Mason, has played the last three seasons with the Bearcats.

Last season, Fletcher averaged 46.95 yards on 59 punts for the Razorbacks. That average placed him third in the SEC and seventh nationally.

He had a long of 71 yards against Auburn, and 23 of his punts traveled at least 50 yards.

Fletcher in 2023 averaged 50-plus yards per punt against LSU, Texas A&M and Alabama. The highlight of his time at Arkansas, though, was an eight-yard run on a fake punt in the Razorbacks’ narrow loss to the Tigers last fall.

Fletcher was the fifth player on Arkansas’ 2023 roster to enter the transfer portal this month, joining quarterback Jacolby Criswell, running back Isaiah Augustave, offensive lineman Andrew Chamblee and defensive lineman Jashaud Stewart.

Punters remaining on the Razorbacks’ roster are Devin Bale and Sam Dubwig, a native of Cabot.
